Four elements, four energies… and the relationships we create
What we seek in others often reflects what we lack inside
In Modern Chirology, the four elements offer a practical lens to understand ourselves and our relationships.
What happens when one element is less present—and how does that shape attraction?
We are never only one thing
In modern hand analysis, we often talk about four elements and ten planetary energies.
These are not rigid labels. They are ways of describing different inner tendencies.
Earth.
Water.
Fire.
Air.
We all have all four, but not in equal proportion.
Some elements are stronger.
Some are quieter.
And that changes how we experience ourselves and others.
What if one element is less present?
Take the example of someone with very little Water.
This can mean:
- less natural connection to emotions
- less sensitivity
- less spontaneous empathy
- difficulty connecting with the heart
This is not wrong. It is a structure.
But very often, people seek this missing energy outside themselves.
The attraction of opposites
A person with little Water may feel strongly attracted to someone with a lot of Water:
very sensitive, very emotional, very connected.
At first, this can feel like balance.
But over time, differences can become tension.
One person needs emotional exchange.
The other does not naturally move there.
Then thoughts may appear:
"I am not being met."
"I feel too much."
"I am alone in this."
And protective patterns begin.
If emotional needs are not met, sensitivity can freeze:
becoming distant, controlled, and closed.
Or Water can dry out:
becoming numb, disconnected, and empty.
This is not simply "because of the other person".
The dynamic starts from what each person carries inside:
what is present, and what is missing.
A different way to read relationships
What if relationships are not only about compatibility, but also about energy balance?
What we bring.
What we unconsciously seek.
What we expect another person to compensate.
We do not choose randomly.
We choose from our inner structure.
A question for you
If you reflect on your relationships, what do you naturally bring, and what do you find yourself seeking in others?
A different way to understand your patterns
What you’re drawn to may be pointing to something within you.
If you’re curious, we can explore that together.
